OpenText is a world leader in Information Management, helping companies securely capture, govern and exchange information on a global scale. OpenText solves digital business challenges for customers, ranging from small and mid-sized businesses to the largest and most complex organisations in the world.
It started in Canada as an enterprise content and document management company some 40 years ago. This may well give it a different perspective to its rivals, which mainly started from an IT database background. Documents have a business, rather than an IT focus, and inherently have a lifecycle (from creation, through storage, to deletion). This focus fits well with the needs of a mutable business.
OpenText has now moved a long way on from its origins, largely by acquisition. OpenText helps its customers manage their System Of Insights, including both Systems of Engagement and Systems of Record It helps them to more smartly:
- Build/Automate/Connect (with application delivery, application modernisation, business network delivery and IT operations management); and,
- Secure/Predict /Act (with cybersecurity, analytics and AI, content management and experience management).
Its offering was completed with the recent acquisition of Micro Focus, with its COBOL-based application modernisation security and delivery tools.
OpenText has a global reach, with operations in 180 countries and 150 million end-users of its software. About 40% of its employees are devoted to research and development – innovation – and 98 out of the top 100 global companies are OpenText customers.
