AT&T, that massive telecoms operator based in the US reported that a bunch of customer data was recently stolen.

According to this report 9,000 customers had data stolen, including credit card data from an online store used to sell DSL equipment. Apparently the problem was detected “within hours” and the site shut down. AT&T have said they would pay for credit monitoring services for those affected.

At least the AT&T PR machine kicked in quickly and offered to pay for credit monitoring services for the 19,000 affected but it so really scares me that yet again not only one or two credit card details have been ripped off but a massive 19,000!

Everyday I ask myself is buying online really worth it. The answer is yes, at the moment, but how much longer will I keep the faith?
