Knowledge transfer is increasingly becoming a major priority for an organisation’s survival and success in today’s competitive global economy. Business value, more and more, comes from how the knowledge and information that people have is applied for ongoing innovation and creativity.

This paper examines why knowledge management and knowledge transfer initiatives have failed, identifies some barriers to effective knowledge transfer, and suggests a fresh approach to implementing effective knowledge transfer in organisations.

The new approach suggested involves identifying the business value of knowledge across the whole organisation, developing and embedding knowledge transfer processes into daily work routines, using appropriate technology, including making the most of existing tools, and defining processes that would enable the implementation to be self maintainable, with content that is useful and being regularly updated in the course of work.
