EA promotes integration, effective change management and the proactive impact analyses. It is no longer something merely for the defence industry and systems engineering but is becoming an increasingly important way of managing the complexity of commercial environments and of facilitating the integration of technology and business.

EA doesn't replace data modelling and integration initiatives but complements them. Corporate data models are an important underpinning of an EA and its business glossaries. Corporate data and application integration projects may be what delivers the initial ROI to justify an investment in EA; and, in particular, integration projects associated with mergers and acquisitions.

In the longer term, EA helps you translate between business silos and technology silos
