If there is one concept that the communications industry understands, it is convergence. Over ten years ago, the seamless integration of the worlds of data communications and telecommunica-tions were seen as the Holy Grail, with great rewards for those that succeeded. After a number of false starts it was the Internet that catalysed the now-successful convergence between the two in-dustries. Companies such as Nortel Networks, the product of the merger between a datacomms vendor and a telecomms company, are testament to the meeting of minds that has occurred.
