Datanomic is both the name of a product and the company that provides it. The product combines data discovery / analysis / auditing facilities with data cleansing capability. The data cleansing can be run simultaneously with the auditing process, or separately, as required.
Datanomic’s contention (and it is a plausible one) is that simply doing data profiling is not as useful as it might be, since you only pick up technical anomalies and do not get a fully ‘fit-for-purpose view of the data’. By including some appropriate cleansing steps at the same time as analysing the data you get a truer ‘real-world’ picture of the data and its meaning, rather than merely a technical view of the strings, dates and numbers that exist in the database.
