This document provides a snapshot of the current state of the market for identity and access management services. Since their introduction in the 1990s, identity and access management technologies have seen considerable evolution. Early systems were in-house deployments for brokering access to enterprise applications deployed on an organisation’s network. Today, organisations tend to rely on a vast array of applications and services provided by external parties as weband cloud-based applications, requiring that identity and access management services be extended beyond the organisation’s boundaries. They are also increasingly looking to collaborate and interact more effectively with business partners and customers by giving them access to applications and services to make the business more efficient, and also wish to benefit from the greater flexibility and productivity that mobile devices offer by ensuring that access to applications and services is provided in a secure manner.
