K2's BPM products have been founded on the Microsoft .NET platform from the beginning. Based on their experience with customers and their own use (their web site is powered by K2 blackpearl), K2 realised that modelling of business processes is only a small part of a complete BPMS. This factor, in conjunction with the need to support a declarative driven-model, was the fundamental principle behind the development of K2 blackpearl.
K2 went to some considerable lengths to determine where people spent time in BPM and identified the below issues:
These then formed the areas of necessary development of tools to support the speeding of these issues.
The final key to K2 blackpearl is its leverage of core infrastructure based on the Microsoft .NET platform. This factor influenced the move of their headquarters to Redmond, USA. K2 maintains a close relationship with the Microsoft development teams; this is a very key factor in their ability not only to exploit what Microsoft produce, but also to influence at an extremely early stage future Microsoft developments.
