Analytics 1 - Business Analytics and Analytic Platforms

This report aims to answer a number of questions depending on the user type. At the simplest level it will evaluate and compare the leading general-purpose analytic applications.

Most often, however, potential customers will be existing users of one or more of the leading ERP vendors. This report will therefore also attempt to answer the question as to whether these companies should stick with the analytic solution of their preferred ERP vendor, or whether they should look at the broader market for a more comprehensive solution.

In addition, there may also be occasions when it will be suitable to look for a point solution to a particular analytic problem. This report will consider when this might be appropriate but, rather than consider individual point solutions (a representative list will be included but not discussed), from a technical perspective we will limit discussions to consideration of the database platforms most suitable for VARs to use to build such solutions.

The report will include evaluations of the following vendor's products:

• Oracle, PeopleSoft and SAP as being representative of ERP products
• Informatica, MicroStrategy, SAS Institute, Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion and Teradata as generic analytic suppliers
• Alterian, Kx Systems, Sybase and SAND as Analytic platform vendors.
