Vertica is one of the fastest growing next generation vendors of analytic warehouses. Its columnar architecture provides all the usual benefits of using this approach combined with its projections and the FlexStore to give an additional performance boost. The company was the first to move into the cloud. Other advantages include the integration with MapReduce, the DBDesigner, very fast load speeds, excellent compression and competitive price/performance. The product has only limited mixed query workload capability so it is unlikely to be suitable for enterprise data warehouses where something like MDM is required. It would be entirely suitable for traditional data warehouses. Overall, we consider Vertica to be a market leader (in some cases the market leader) for all classes of general analytic warehouses.
