DB2 LUW is not just a stand-alone database but is surrounded and supported by a whole host of complementary products that together make up IBM's offering. This breadth of offerings has been significantly extended with the introduction of DB2 pureScale but it is by no means limited to it, and there are many software elements that may also need to be considered. While there may be occasions in which it makes sense to consider DB2 LUW in isolation, to get the best out of IBM and its database it really makes sense to consider the company's offerings from a more holistic perspective. It is when you do this that you will appreciate the richness of the environment that IBM can offer.
