Focus Area: IT infrastructure for storage and data protection
Peter Williams' IT industry experience spans over 47 years; he is well-respected for his breadth of both technology and business knowledge. Peter joined Bloor Research in late 2004 where he has held the IT Infrastructure Management brief for some years. He now focuses especially on storage and data protection, and the network infrastructure surrounding it which is increasingly virtualised and absorbed into the cloud.
Peter's broad experience dating from the 1960s began with NCR, then a mainstream computer manufacturer, working in a series of technical roles including: programmer, systems analyst, installation consultant and project manager responsible for major software developments in the banking, retail and health sectors – and, from the late '80s, national marketing manager in several vertical sectors including the logistics and manufacturing. During the '90s he worked for a high-tech marketing company, writing promotional and technical material for companies such as Digital (DEC), Kyocera Europe and RS Components - while also gaining a BSc in Computing part-time – and was latterly contracted as an IS manager by a pipework tools manufacturer.
Another job shift in 2000 took him into IT journalism working at VNU Business Publications (now part of Incisive Media). In his four-years with VNU he produced some 2000 reports and analyses on technology and business for: IT Week, Computing, Network News, Computer Reseller News publications and the VNUnet web site, and he latterly also wrote regular newsletters on open source and business hardware. While at VNU, and subsequently at Bloor, Peter has conducted many in-depth interviews with IT industry leaders.
Away from IT, Peter plays an active role in his local church, also using his analytical skills to write and recently publish an advanced Bible student textbook ("Israel and the Covenants in New Testament Times"). He is a long-time honorary vice-president of the Sussex County Table Tennis Association having long ago represented Sussex and England. Now married for not far short of 40 years, he has three grown up children and a granddaughter.
